How Can I Know God?

In John 14:6 Jesus says, "I am the way, the truth and the life; no one comes to the Father except through me." This is the answer.

Romans 3:23 says, "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."
1 John 1:8 says, "if we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves."

Let’s not deceive ourselves. You are a sinner and so am I.

Do you remember what Isaiah 59:2 says? “But your iniquities (sins) have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden His face from you so that He does not hear.” Then, Romans 6:23 states that the wages of sin is death (Death refers to eternal separation from God according to Revelation 20:14.). Well, this is why He sent Jesus.

God cannot be in communion with sinners even though He created man to for the purpose of communing (hanging-out with) with him (Genesis 1:26, James 2:3).

Since we are all sinners we have no option but a life on earth separated from God and an eternity in darkness. However, John 3:16-17 says "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him."

He sent Jesus to die for us (Romans 5:8)

If you can imagine it, picture an innocent person on death row. For years his family has been spending all of their money and time trying to get his sentence overturned. Finally, five minutes before his execution is scheduled to take place someone runs in and tells him that he is free, that they have found the guilty party and he is free. He looks gravely at his excited family, and says, “No, I want to take this person’s place. I will die so that he can live.” That’s what Jesus did for us!

This is why Jesus is the way, the truth and life and no one comes to the Father but through Him (John 14:6).  It’s because he has paid the penalty for our death.  Because Jesus paid the price for our sins, through Him we are made clean and God can look on us, He can hear our prayers, and our names get written in the book of life.

This is possible because Jesus led a sin-free life, which means that He is the only person worthy of God.  When he died in pure innocence, God allowed the sin of the entire world to be on Him.  He literally died for us.

All we have to do is accept Jesus’ gift of access to God. Romans 10:9-10 says, “if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.”

If you want to know God, then make Jesus the Lord of your life and the Savior of you life by confessing with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and truly believing and accepting in your heart that God raised Him from the dead.  If you do this, you are a follower of Christ and you have direct access to God.
