Why Is It Important To Know God?

The Bible says in 1 Timothy 1:15 that it is a trustworthy statement that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.

Why is this important? This is important because Isaiah 59:1-2 says that the Lord's hand is not so short that it cannot save, and His ear is not so dull that it cannot hear, but your iniquities (sins) have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden His face from you so that He does not hear.

Your sins are what are keeping you from knowing God.

We must understand that the cost of being a sinner is death (Romans 6:23). Death is, by the Bible's definition, an eternity without God. This might not sound all that bad to you, or heaven might seem overrated in your mind, but what I hope you come to understand is that God is light and in Him there is no darkness at all (1 John 1:5). God is peace (Philippians 4:7). God is love (1 John 4:8). God is our defender and protector (Psalm 91). He is our helper (Psalm 54:4). God loves justice (Isaiah 61:8). In Him there is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23).

The opposite is also true. A day will come when God will judge all the people of the world (Revelation 20:12). God will judge each person according to whether or not his name is found in the book of life. If his name is not found then he will be thrown into the lake of fire, where death and Hades will also be (Revelation 20:15). The reason I'm saying this is because there will come a time when The Light will permanently separate itself from The Darkness. Once that happens then in the darkness, there will be no light. This means no love, no peace, no joy, no patience, no kindness, no goodness, no gentleness, and no self-control. There will be no protection, no justice and no help. We live in a world that seems chaotic; sometimes there is justice and other times there is injustice. Sometimes there is joy, other times there is sorrow. Sometimes there is love, other times there is hate. This is because on this earth the light and the darkness are coexisting. However, you must understand that when the light separates itself from the darkness there will no longer be both. Depending on which one you have chosen, you will either be in constant light and goodness or constant darkness and evil. Therefore, I encourage you to choose wisely.

If you have decided that you want to know God personally then read "How Can I Know God?".

I also want to point out here that Christianity is the only relegion in which there is a savior.  In every other relegion man is always working to try to attain access to God and heaven.  As Christians we believe that Christ is the only way to God.  When we accept His gift of salvation we are assured in our decision because we are changed, without having to do anything we are transformed.  You can see more on this here.
