I feel like I had the best weekend ever! Saturday morning was the highlight. Jason was at drill (Air Force Reservist weekend at Tinker AFB). So, I slept in, then moved from the couch to the kitchen where I prepared coffee and toast, then from the kitchen to the couch where I enjoyed the coffee, toast and a chapter from The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis.
I then put on some running clothes and jogging shoes and proceeded to walk Brinkley for over an hour while listening to Confessions of a Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella. (I have decided that sauntering is better than sitting. Also, downloading fun/good books to your iPod or MP3 Player will revolutionize your workout, I promise.)
After my walk I contemplated mowing the lawn, but the grass was wet so I decided to leave it for Jason. I went inside and cleaned the house instead. We have been gone the past several weekends, so our guest room was wrecked! Since there was no time to unpack we would simply grab the next travel bag/suit case and take what we needed from the previously used bag/case. There were about 6 opened, half emptied travel bags and suitcases across the bed and on the floor. It was a nightmare. So, I slowly but surely made my way through the mound of travel gear. I started by emptying all the bags/cases and putting them away. Then I sorted shoes from clothes from hats from other random accessories/books/magazines/things bought on trips. Next, I put away all the shoes, then other random stuff and finally I chucked all the clothes into the dirty clothes basket, as this is SO much easier than trying to decide what’s clean, what’s dirty, what is too wrinkled to be hung and what can actually go back into the closet with a clear conscience. I smoothed down the bed, and ahhhh…. the guest bedroom is restored to its former glory.
Next on my list… Laundry. We generally require about two loads per week. Sometimes we could probably get away with only one load, but I have an aversion to washing whites with darks. So, always at least two loads of laundry when I’m doing the laundry. On this day, I started with four loads. However, four loads soon became five because as I was stuffing my second load of clothes into the washer I started realizing that there was no way soap could properly be washed out with that many clothes stuffed in together. So, I began pulling clothes out and tossing them aside. At this point I was able to cut my original third load in size in order to add some of those clothes to the new load. This was a good thing as the original third load had started out slightly larger than the second. The best part of all was that I washed whites first, so when I started mixing loads to create a new load, they were all items I had no problem washing together. Brilliant!
I then proceeded to straighten up the rest of the house, which didn’t take any time at all since the rest of the house is hopeless to begin with. (Jason is remodeling the pantry for me so the entire thing is gutted and it’s guts, i.e. everything that could possibly go into a pantry, are all over my kitchen and dining/sun room.) Ignoring that the dishes in the dishwasher were clean and could have been unloaded, I looked around and saw that things were “good enough”. I gave myself a pat on the back and headed for the shower.
This is my normal, everyday routine when I live at home. I miss it. Getting to relive it, if only for one day, was heaven on earth for me. My full-time flight attendant status is up at the end of this month. I can’t wait to move home and return to a life where I work sometimes, waste a lot of time, and try to figure out what to do with myself in the meantime.
Hello dear Britney! I will enjoy this for sure! I have a hard time navigating this blog thing - but I will try! Good to keep up with the ins and outs of your days. I love you and miss you. Can't wait to reconnect in the New Year!
