Yesterday was the mayoral election in my town. It was also the end of my first ever campaign. In the course of the past 5 weeks I have made almost 500 phone calls, attended several gatherings, and even stood on a street corner, with Jason, waiving a sign in 32 degree weather, all on behalf of our candidate of choice.
Well, as you can tell by the title, we lost. We attended the watch party last night and Jason said that it was his first ever concession speech to hear live. It was horrible. We really wanted him to win, and although we knew it would be close, we never expected to loose. I guess that’s how life goes though. No one ever plans to loose. You just have to remind yourself to keep going. I wasn’t the one running for office, but I have an entirely new respect for people who run for an office over and over. It is physically, financially and emotionally exhausting. Whew… All I can say now is that I’m glad it’s over.
I tried to take a picture of us at the street corner holding a sign, but my camera batteries were dead. So, I painted you a picture in Paint Brush.
Only, you should picture us in hats and gloves and scarves and heavy jackets with several layers of clothes underneath. We also had hand and foot warmers and were holding cups of hot coffee. =)
Today, I am trying to get my house in some kind of order. I’m also cooking food that will hopefully last the next few days. I leave today, get home late Friday night, then leave again Sunday and I will be gone until that Friday. I’m trying to set myself up so that I don’t have to come home to chaos. I’m also planning to take Brinkley for a long walk. The poor thing hasn’t been walked in at least two weeks. I’m a terrible mother…
