A LOVEly Weekend of Surprises…

Jason went away on holiday (I’ve been listening to European audio books.  It’s how I pass, and actually enjoy, all the time I spend in the car.) two weekends ago for his annual guys weekend in St. Luis.  It was scheduled for Valentine’s weekend and we totally missed each other.  I had left the previous Sunday morning, around 10am, to go to work.  He had left the house 4 hours before me because he had drill.  So aside from the quick peck, me trying to hide my morning breath, Saturday night was basically the last time I saw him.  Like I said, I went to work on Sunday and was supposed to come home Monday night and then drive back Tuesday.  This was so that I could hang out with Jason one more time before he left town.  Well, it decided to snow in Tulsa while I was driving home, only it didn’t just snow, it was a small blizzard.  It had taken me an hour to get to that part of Tulsa from Bville, but I had to turn around and go back.  I could not drive all the way home in this.  So, I turned around and went back to Bville.  I stopped at the grocery store for 3 days worth of microwave meals, stopped at Blockbuster for 6 DVDs of Gilmore Girls and headed back to hole up in the hotel.  They let me borrow a DVD player so I was set.

I flew again on Wed, like I was supposed to, but then got called to fly on Thursday.  My original plan was to drive home on Thursday in time to take Jason to the airport.  This was no longer going to work.  In fact, we were in the air at the same time that night, just on different aircrafts.  I ended up driving home after my flight Thursday night.  I had to get home because the dog needed out to pee.

Friday morning I woke up late.  At 11am I was sitting on the couch in my robe, watching TV and drinking coffee.  I looked around the living room and decided I wanted to paint.  So, I called Jason and asked if I could spend about $50 dollars without explaining why.  He immediately said yes.  (I haven’t verified this, but I think he thought I was going to spend it on something for him for Valentine’s Day.  I decided just to let him think this because it was working in my favor.) (Also, for clarification, we consult before making any purchases that don’t have to do with putting food in our stomachs.)  So, I drove to Sherwin Williams.  I asked how much was a gallon of paint.  I left Sherwin Williams and went to Walmart.  I brought home about 20 paint swatches and spent 30 minutes deciding which shade of green I liked best.  When I finally settled on the color I went back and bought the paint.  Can I just say that I spent $13.95 per gallon of paint.  That is amazing!  It costs almost nothing to totally change your living space, and if you don’t like it, it costs almost nothing to change it back!!!

When I got home I immediately got started.  I painted my entire kitchen and living room by myself in just under 12 hours.  This includes moving furniture and taking off socket covers.  I was very proud.

Bloopers:

I never use tape or plastic or anything because I have a steady hand and I have never blundered with paint.  Well, I finished my last touch up and started to step down off the stool, but instead of touching the floor my foot slammed into the paint tray and sent a paint brush flying.  This was the result.

It doesn’t look like much, but the blob was thick and it was running fast.  I cleaned it up best I could and said a prayer of thanks that my rug was green to begin with.  However, my drawers are still sticking.

This is our DVD collection that I was trying to alphabetize.

I had to leave on Sunday morning (Valentine’s Day) to fly the Sunday evening flight. It’s now officially been 7 days since I’ve laid eyes on my husband. Jason was supposed to get home about 6pm that Sunday night.  Once again we were in the air at the same time, just on different aircrafts.  He was totally surprised by the paint job.  He loved it, praise God.  But then, I was the one who got the next surprise.  I got home at 11pm and walked through the door to find this:

25 tea light candles spread around the room, hearts and rose petals on the floor, champaign and chocolate covered strawberries sitting on the coffee table.  Also, as soon as the front door opened the into to You’ve Got Mail (my all time fav) started playing.  Isn’t he wonderful!

The other pictures looked like the one above, but the flash allows you to see what was really there.
