I just finished watching this movie for the fourth time. Granted, I spend a whole lot more time alone than in the presence of others, but this really is a must see movie. This is the best movie trailer I could find, but it makes it seem as though this is an upbeat movie. That is one word that I would NEVER use to describe this movie. Four times now I have laughed at the same places and cried (actual tears running down my cheeks and onto my clothes) at the same places. Four times as the movie ends I sigh a heavy sigh and take a moment before I am able to get out of my seat. Just tonight I thought to myself that I wished there was a later showing because I would go again.
3 weeks ago I had the privilege to meet a man who grew up in Mississippi during this time. He was raised by their maid. His maid’s mom was a maid and her grandma was a slave. He said this movie is spot on and that he couldn’t believe they did such a great job portraying the truth.
Please go see this movie if you haven’t yet. It would be a shame not to see it in the theater. As for me, well, I have every intention of seeing it again tomorrow night.
I so want to see this movie! My little town's two screen theatre has not gotten it. hopefully I'll be able to see it soon. I loved the book and the discussion with my book club (retired everyone but me). I almost put the book down about half way through, however, due to the poor treatment portrayed. it made me sick.
